Pillar Candle Making Class

Craft & Create: The Art of Pillar Candle Making

Welcome to the studio. I am Vedia, and I would love to invite you to a creative morning focusing entirely on the beautiful craft of moulded and pillar candles.

While container candles are poured into glass, pillar candles must hold their own shape, which requires a completely different type of wax and a unique set of skills. In this 3-hour session, we will explore these techniques together in a relaxed setting, accompanied by a lovely selection of pastries, tea, and coffee.

What You Will Make

You will craft three distinctive moulded candles using different design techniques. Because candle making is a creative process, our projects change with the seasons. Depending on the time of year, your trio of candles might include a delicate flower, a modern ombré bubble candle, a classic honeycomb pillar, or beautiful seasonal designs for autumn and Christmas.

Please note: Pillar candles require a long, undisturbed setting time. Unmoulding them too soon can ruin your beautiful work. To ensure your pieces remain perfect, they will stay in their moulds at the studio to set. I will carefully unmould them, package them beautifully, and post them directly to your home within the next two days.

What You Will Learn

Under my guidance, you will master the essential techniques of working with freestanding wax, including:

  • Mould Preparation: How to correctly thread and secure wicks into various silicone and polycarbonate moulds.

  • Temperature Control: Understanding the exact temperatures needed for pouring to achieve a smooth finish and avoid frosting.

  • Colour & Design: How to confidently use candle dyes to create solid colours and gradient ombré effects.

  • The Tools of the Trade: Familiarisation with melting pots, wicking needles, and the specific properties of pillar wax.
