Wing Chair Upholstery Course
Craft & Create: Bring Your Wing Chair Back to Life
Got a beloved wing chair that needs a little care and attention?
Join us in the studio for a hands-on, four-day course designed to guide you through the rewarding process of traditional and modern reupholstery. Whether you are a beginner ready to dive into a new craft, or you have some experience and want to tackle a classic piece, we are here to support you step-by-step. Our goal is for you to leave with a beautiful, professionally finished chair you can proudly showcase in your home.
Learn from a Master Upholsterer
You will be learning directly from Celal, our resident master upholsterer. With over 30 years of experience at the bench, Celal is an expert in both traditional and contemporary techniques. He is incredibly knowledgeable, meticulous, and known for his outstanding attention to detail—so much so that he is regularly trusted to restore historical pieces for Heritage Houses. Having Celal guide your project means you are learning true craftsmanship from the very best.
The Golden Rule of Upholstery
This course is structured to complete a standard wing chair reupholstery within four days. However, the golden rule of this craft is that you never truly know what you are dealing with until you strip a chair back. Some pieces hide significantly more wear and tear beneath their fabric than others.
To ensure you have the best possible experience, we have a simple assessment process:
Send us a photo: Before you book, please email us a few clear photos of your chair. Celal will assess it to see if it fits the standard four-day timeframe.
Honest advice: If your chair requires extensive structural repair or complex traditional groundwork, we will advise you upfront that it may take a little longer to complete.
Your choice: We will give you a clear picture of the work involved so you can decide if you are happy to proceed with that specific chair, and we will discuss any necessary extra days.
Your Workspace
You will be assigned your own fully equipped workbench and upholstery donkey, with access to our cutting tables and industrial sewing machines. We provide all the standard sundry upholstery materials you will need to rebuild your chair, such as staples and tacks. While we carry a small selection of fabrics, we highly encourage you to source and bring your own upholstery-grade fabric to truly make the piece your own.
Course Details & Scheduling
We know that finding four consecutive days can be tough, so we offer a flexible approach to scheduling.
Cost: £420 for the core four days. Additional workshop days, if required for complex chairs, are priced at £105 per day.
Hours: 10:00am - 5:30 pm.
Flexibility: You can choose to complete the course over four consecutive days (Monday to Thursday) or spread your days out over several weeks to suit your diary.
Class Size: We cap our classes at a maximum of four students. This ensures you receive plenty of one-on-one guidance from Celal, alongside bottomless cups of tea and coffee while you work. We ask you to bring your own lunch.
How to Photograph Your Chair for Assessment
To help Celal give you the most accurate advice on whether your wing chair is suitable for our four-day course, we need to get a good look at its current condition.
You do not need to be a professional photographer. Just try to ensure the room is well-lit, and capture the following angles on your phone:
• The Full Front: A straight-on shot showing the entire chair, including the arms, seat, and legs.
• The Side Profile: A shot from the side so Celal can see the shape of the wings, the angle of the back, and the depth of the chair.
• The Back: A clear photo of the rear of the chair.
• The Seat Area: If your chair has a loose cushion, please take one photo with the cushion on, and one with the cushion removed so we can see the platform underneath.
• The Underside: If you are able to gently tilt the chair back, a photo of the underside helps us see if the webbing or springs are sagging.
• Any Trouble Spots: Close-ups of any obvious damage, such as wobbly legs, deep sags, or exposed springs.
Once you have your photos, simply attach them to an email and send them to hello@craft-create.co.uk with a brief note about what you are hoping to achieve. Celal will take a look and we will be in touch with our honest advice and next steps.
