The Revival Monthly Upholstery Workshop
Bring it back to life.
Upholstery can feel deeply intimidating when you’re working alone at home — sourcing the right materials, understanding tension, knowing which tool to reach for and when. The Revival is a monthly workshop that removes all of that guesswork.
Each session is limited to six makers, so you’ll always have real, focused access to a professional upholsterer who is there the entire time — not demonstrating at the front of the room, but working alongside you on your piece. It’s a slower pace by design, and that’s exactly the point.
How It Works
Everyone brings their own project and works at their own rhythm. The atmosphere is collaborative rather than structured — people share discoveries, ask questions, and make visible progress on pieces that have often been waiting years for attention. Our resident upholsterer moves through the group throughout the session, troubleshooting, demonstrating traditional techniques, and stepping in wherever you need them.
You’ll leave each month with real, tangible progress and the confidence to keep going at home between sessions.
What’s Provided
No need to invest in specialist equipment. The workshop is fully equipped with professional tools including heavy-duty magnetic hammers, webbing stretchers, regulators, ripping chisels, and pneumatic staplers — all available to use throughout your session.
Standard sundries such as jute webbing, hessian, calico, wadding, and tacks are available to purchase on the day at a small additional cost should your project require a structural rebuild.
Tea, coffee, and biscuits are included throughout.
What to Bring
Come with your furniture piece and the materials specific to your project — your top-cover fabric and matching thread, and any specialist trimmings, piping cords, or buttons your design calls for.
One important note on portability: as our workshop hosts a number of events throughout the month, we’re unable to store furniture between sessions. Your piece needs to be something you can bring at the start and take home at the end, whatever stage it’s at.
Choosing Your Project
We proudly welcome everyone from absolute beginners to advanced hobbyists. To keep the afternoon relaxed, rewarding, and beautifully slow-paced, your chosen project must match your current skill level:
For Absolute Beginners: We highly recommend starting with small, portable, achievable pieces. Drop-in dining chair seats, footstools, or small piano benches are perfect. They teach you the foundational rules of stripping, padding, and clean corner-tensioning without overwhelming you.
For Intermediate Makers: If you already know the basics, feel free to bring items with independent springs, stitched edges, or simple stuffed arms.
If you’re unsure whether your piece is the right fit, send us a photo before booking and we’ll give you an honest steer. Large structural frame repairs or pieces needing significant woodwork are better suited to a dedicated upholstery service and would be beyond the scope of this setting .
