The fragrance
The Orangery is a glasshouse full of citrus trees in the heat of the afternoon — that thick, sweet-sharp air you get when orange blossom and warm leaves and sun-baked stone all hang together in one still room.
It opens on neroli: the flower of the bitter orange tree, heady and white and faintly green, somewhere between honey and petrol in the way only neroli is. It’s the most luxurious note we work with, and here it’s given room to bloom.
Underneath, the bitter orange itself — not the bright, breakfast-table sweetness of an ordinary orange, but something deeper and more bittersweet, with the peel and the pith and all the complication that makes it interesting. It keeps the neroli grounded and stops the whole thing from turning syrupy.
And then, almost hidden, a thread of black pepper. Dry, warm, very slightly spicy — the smallest amount, just enough to give the citrus an edge and keep it from being simply pretty. It’s the note you can’t quite name but would miss if it were gone.
The Orangery is our summer candle. Poured for the season and gone with it.
Made at Craft & Create
Citrus is the hardest thing to hold. Left alone, it lifts off and vanishes — bright for a moment, then gone. The work in this one was making something that bright last the length of a burn.
The neroli carries the fragrance, the bitter orange gives it depth, and the pepper sharpens the edges so it never tips into sweetness. Each was chosen for what it does for the others. Blended and poured by hand at our studio at Folly Farm, and tested across every stage — cold throw, hot throw, melt pool, the way it fills a room and the way it fades. Original, and made nowhere else. Ten years of fragrance work behind every decision.
The wax
The same European plant-based wax we pour across the range — rapeseed and coconut — chosen here for how kindly it treats bright, volatile top notes. Citrus can flash off too fast in a lesser wax; this one releases it slowly and evenly, so the neroli and orange stay present from the first light to the last.
Sustainably sourced. Free from paraffin, palm, soy, and synthetic fillers. A slow, clean burn that lets a bright fragrance breathe.
The vessel
The amber apothecary jar does quiet work for a citrus scent especially — its tinted glass shields the fragrance from sunlight, which is exactly what fades a bright blend fastest. Substantial and simple, it’s made to sit on a sunlit sill and stay there long after the wax is gone.
